Cervélo doesn’t embrace new technology just because it’s available and popular. Integrating disc brakes into the Tour de France-winning R3 meant a lot more than simply slapping them on. First, the technology had to be on track for UCI approval — the R3 is a renowned road-racing force, after all. Then we needed time to test, test and test again to ensure the optimal balance in aerodynamics, weight, stiffness and all the other factors that separate Cervélo from the competition. Fact is, details matter when changes are made to iconic frames, which is why you can trust us when we say that the R3 Disc is well worth the wait.
PROVEN PEDIGREE MEETS NEW TECH
The R3 Disc can win on any road, especially now that disc-brake technology has improved stiffness, handling, safety and control.
COMPATIBILITY IS KEY
A better riding frame that works with all components. The flat-mount standard ensures compatibility with virtually all commonly used calipers and rotor sizes via adapters.
SIZE AND SPEC
Durable, premium performance on a precise-handling road bike that fits everybody. Ride all day and make no sacrifice.
FUTURE-PROOF ESSENTIAL ENGINEERING
R Series bikes are known for a surprisingly high degree of ride quality, given their low weight and definitive stiffness. The R3 Disc adds plenty to that equation with a stiffness-enhancing single-piece rear triangle and through-axles, and flat-mount disc-brake calipers that cater to compatibility.
The R Series is focused on offering the best of our lightweight engineering. The R3 Disc delivers a sub-1,000-gram frame (size 56, with paint and hardware). With that kind of performance, the hills that used to throw you a Saturday-morning challenge will start looking a whole lot smaller.
The R3 Disc’s through-axles boost lateral stiffness in the disc-specific fork, while the removal of seatstay-mounted rear brakes permits a wider seatstay placement and improves bottom-bracket stiffness by 25 per cent. Then there’s the single-piece rear triangle, the result of a new manufacturing process that eliminates bond joints and produces a stronger, stiffer and more stable back end.
Start looking for a coffee shop a lot farther from home: This bike is ready for anything you – or the pavé – can throw at it. Our signature slender seatstays offer class-leading compliance, disc technology delivers responsive braking and modulation, and the secure, sure-footed handling will keep you in the saddle for hours you won’t even notice flying by.
